The Temple of Heaven was built in the early fifteenth century. On this site the emperor prayed to Heaven for a good harvest and other blessings.
The Forbidden City, a space of around 180 acres, was the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Much of its treasure now resides in the National Palace Museum in Taipei.
Liu explains the cultural significance of fu dogs. With him and us on the Beijing leg of the tour were his wife and daughter. He says he married about the 80th woman he dated--and the first who didn't begin the date by asking about his monthly salary.
